UK regional airline Eastern Airways has agreed to buy Air Southwest in a move that will see it expand into the southwest of England.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is set to be completed next month. The move follows the agreement of a strategic partnership between the two airlines in February.

Air Southwest, which was formed in 2003, currently operates from 12 airports and has five aircraft and 135 staff.

Eastern Airways' fleet will also increase to 35 aircraft with the addition of five 50-seat Dash 8 300 turbo-prop aircraft.

The two brands will be retained in their 'home markets.'
