Passenger traffic at Singapore's Changi Airport grew 11.3 percent to 3.77 million in May from a year ago, as rapid expansion in low-cost carrier traffic offset a sharp drop in traffic between the city-state and Japan.
Low-cost carriers accounted for 28.0 percent of passenger traffic and grew 24.6 percent from a year ago, Changi Airport said in a statement.
From January to May this year, Changi Airport registered 18.4 million passenger, an increase of 10.7 percent from a year earlier, buoyed by double-digit growth in traffic to and from Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific.
The airport, a major transit hub in Asia, also said in a statement it handled 157,286 tonnes of cargo in May, an increase of 2.7 percent from a year ago.
